A Mothers Love Blossomed

Are we products of our environment or products of our expectations?

When the author introduces the journey of how the name "The Other Wes Moore" came about for his book he delves into the fact that the book and author share a relationship inside the pages, it reminded me of my childhood years. I also like to refer to them as unopened chapters. Although it’s the past, my present and future will only see the surface, which is the title the past created. On the outside, and until I feel the need to open the pages of my book for them, they are only introduced to the surface, the title, the publisher's world. The publisher holds ground rules over that. He said, "Basically, what's inside of a book is all the author. That's the author's words, those are the author's thoughts. What's on the outside, the cover, the title, that's a lot of the publisher because that's the publisher's chance to market."
After reading the first paragraph, when asked the question of whether we are a product of our expectations or environment, I cannot help but side with the environment, seeing as little activities like walking/trekking miles to school, punishment, and heavy disciplinary actions from school authorities, the strong sense of competition in school, the joy of Wednesdays when school was cut short, memories unattainable, shattered hopes and so much more, all this defined my book and the title you'll see today.
However, I also believe that at some point, both expectations and the environment do cross paths. Briefly, yes, but eventually, in every book, every story, and every author's life, it happens. In my story, it was seeing my single mom of four raising her children by herself. She was able to send three of her kids to the United States, giving my siblings and me the utmost chance we could have asked for. Despite her environment, she had high expectations for us that she worked very hard to fulfill especially because as I remember vividly Burkina Faso was filled with a crisis in 2014, a large part of the population decided that the President did not do enough for the country and want it him the resign.
This affected the country for about Three months, the country was at a standstill , everyone was afraid to go out because there was shooting everywhere and many people were hit with stray bullets. why do I Introduce you to this chapter of my story? maybe you can understand the significance If you walk the shoes of the young girl who's mom forbade her and her siblings soundly about playing outside. It was so bad that even when a ball was lost as it flew over the fence, my older brother at the time attempted to retrieve the ball but yet again and I am grateful it happened, my mom had shouted at him from doing so, she was scared that with all going on one would not come back. Many citizens died as a result of this and all the newspapers were talking about it also every day there were new murders.
Some bandits in the country decided to break up shops and steal inside to resell afterward or, they attacked people to recover their vehicles and money. It was a very hard time for my mom, my siblings and me yet she did all she could, I do in fact believe no one on earth could have done better. So, as her child, I know she did not do all this for no reason. I know her motherly love for her kids was what wrote her book, and her expectations for the end of my book are high.

In essence, individuals are shaped by a fusion of their surroundings and personal anticipations. Our immediate social circle, constituting a significant portion of our environment, initially imposes expectations upon us. Subsequently, these external expectations become internalized, guiding our trajectory towards our envisioned future.
