Music has played a significant role in the lives of both Wes Moore and myself, offering us a sense of connection and comfort. Growing up, Wes Moore found solace in hip-hop, which helped him feel understood and less alone. It connected him with friends in his neighborhood and peers in Riverdale. Hip-hop provided direction and purpose, steering him away from the dangerous path his brother took. Despite their different paths, both Wes Moores found common ground in the emotions conveyed through hip-hop, bridging their differences. Personally, music holds immense importance in my life. Making decisions is an unavoidable aspect of life's journey, shaping our paths in unexpected ways. When I reflect on my life, I see how the choices I've made have changed where I am now, and I know the decisions I make going forward could do the same. If I had chosen differently in the past, my life could be totally different right now. My past choices led me to a different country, far from my family. At the tender age of 13, my father brought my elder siblings to the U.S., leaving my mother and me behind in our home country because I didn't want to leave her there by herself. This choice set the stage for a series of life-altering decisions to come. A Mothers Love Blossomed

Are we products of our environment or products of our expectations?  When the author introduces the journey of how the name "The Other Wes Moore" came about for his book he delves into the fact that the book and author share a relationship inside the pages, it reminded me of my childhood years. I also like to refer to them as unopened chapters. Although it’s the past, my present and future will only see the surface, which is the title the past created. On the outside, and until I feel the need to open the pages of my book for them, they are only introduced to the surface, the title, the publisher's world. The publisher holds ground rules over that. He said, "Basically, what's inside of a book is all the author. That's the author's words, those are the author's thoughts. What's on the outside, the cover, the title, that's a lot of the publisher because that's the publisher's chance to market." ...
